Modern medical technology has brought a number of amazing medical miracles into the arena of everyday treatment. For a vast array of health concerns, there is an equally vast array of options. Many plastic surgeons exist for the sake of helping others to achieve the peace and health that is associated with feeling comfortable and confident in one’s own skin.

For many, plastic surgery has become an increasingly important field, one which is life altering and perhaps even beyond words. There are a great number of patients who seek out the care and expertise of professional and experienced plastic surgeons who focus their life’s work on improving the livelihood of their patients. There are a great many types of procedures which play into this even currently growing medical field. Various patients all over seek out alterations in their appearance in a number of different ways to achieve a common goal: to feel comfortable in their skin, to be at peace with their appearance and their self-image, and to stay as healthy as possible. The reasons of course may differ in their specifics from person to person, but plastic surgery is largely becoming a way to help people feel better, overall, in their own skin, with their own body and thus their own mind and heart. The connection to inner life with outward appearance is vast, and cannot be denied. Many patients merely seek the opportunity to align the two so that a greater degree of happiness and peace can ultimately be achieved.

It cannot be ignored as well that the field of plastic surgery involves situations where patients are not clear on what their motives are, what the purpose of having surgery performed is, and how it is bettering their life in some sort of substantial way. Having said this, it is the patient’s personal responsibility to get crystal clear on what surgery will bring into their life, how it will positively alter their self image and their lifestyle, and how they are benefiting in a psychological way. Getting clear on the motives behind the surgery are very important. Furthermore, it is the patient’s responsibility to understand any benefits as well as any risks. It is thus vital that patients ask plenty of questions, do research on the surgery in question, get a second opinion, and seek professional advice and care. It may also be good to seek out more than one plastic surgeon and to find one who is trustworthy, obviously confident in their field of expertise, and willing to help their patients toward a greater understanding of the procedure from beginning to end. These are all important questions to ask ourselves and important bits of information which ultimately lead to a far more satisfactory experience should surgery be decided upon.

Understanding how plastic surgery will alter your life is not always immediately visible prior to surgery and so it is very important to appreciate the severity of surgical procedures and to respect their ability to create change, whether that change is for better or for worse. For some patients, plastic surgery is not an option and it is required for their peace of mind. In such cases, the benefits may be clearer than the risks, yet both ought to be equally and thoroughly considered prior to any action being taken.

The consultation is the most important part of your plastic surgery, and you want to make sure you get it right the first time. Lots of mistakes are made because the patient isn’t really ready for your consultation. Getting the face and body you want it too important to take chances with!

Here are some things you should do to prepare before you go to your consultation…

1 – Decide what you want done. Some people go to their surgeon with a list the length of their arm of little improvements that would make their body perfect.

Tuck a little here, stretch a little there, vacuum some of this, inject some of this… It can be complicated. While your surgeon may be able to do a couple of different things during your operation, a big long list like that is just not going to get things done.

Bring in a list of all the things you want done, and prioritize. Start with number one, and imagine that this is the only change that can be made. Then, pick a number 2 and so on. This will give your plastic surgeon a good idea of what you want done.

2 – Do your homework. The more you know about what you need done, the more smoothly your consultation will go. If you know what can be done where, and with what kinds of results, it will be easier to describe to your plastic surgeon what you want.

It’s like getting a haircut; you have to know what you need, and your hairstylist will get it just right. Although, plastic surgery is a bigger operation! It’s important that you are familiar with the procedures that you want done, and you have realistic expectations about the outcomes. This will help your doctor create the new body you want.

3 – Think about recovery time. All cosmetic operations require some time for the patient to recover, and this can really put a damper on your work and social life. Before you head in for your consultation, decide exactly how much of your life you can spare for recovery, and assume that you will be totally out of commission for that time.

Think of it as your time budget. Tell your plastic surgeon the absolute longest you can spend recovering, and that will help them decide if this particular operation will work for you or not.

4 – Brainstorm some questions. Make sure that you get all of your questions and concerns answered by the doctor. And, as always with doctors, be totally honest about your feelings. It can be hard to do this sometimes, but it is important. After all, it will help your plastic surgeon to know why you want to make the change. This might help them make some suggestions that would better get you what you want.

5 – Make sure your finances are in order. Decide how you are going to pay, and what your budget for the whole thing will be. You can usually pay by check, credit card or cash, and some clinics offer loan options. Just make sure you’ve decided beforehand how you’re going to pay.

After your consultation, you’ll feel relieved. You’ll know just what is going to happen, in what time-frame, and what the results will be. Get prepared before your consultation, and your plastic surgery will be a success!

Many times people think that Beverly Hills plastic surgery consists of face lifts and breast augmentations only. However, there are actually more than ten distinctly different plastic surgery procedures that are commonly done. While it is true that a lot of plastic surgery has to do with the facial region, not all plastic surgery done on the face is considered a face lift. Just as the face is one region of the body that can have multiple different procedures performed, the breast, and the body are other regions where multiple different types of surgery are performed.

On the facial region, some of the common types of Beverly Hills plastic surgery include the facelift, the browlift, the eyelift, and rhinoplasty. The facelift, being the most common and well-known, is simply a technique where the doctor makes incisions around the ears and within the hair on the scalp in order to tighten both the skin and deeper tissues of the face. This is usually done to fix part of the face that droop or sag more than what individuals would prefer.

A browlift is very closely associated with a facelift and is exactly what the title describes it is when the doctor makes various incisions in order to lift a drooping or dragging brow (a very common sign of aging). An eyelift (know as Blepharoplasty) is performed in order to treat the droopiness or fullness of either the upper or lower eyelids. Rhinoplasty, or more commonly referred to as a nose-job, is when a doctor reshapes the cartilage and the bone inside your nose.

In the breast region, there are typically three different procedures that are common: breast augmentation, breast lift, and Gynecomastia (or male breast surgery). People have breast augmentations for many different reasons. Some do want larger breasts, but some may desire to replace breast contour that can be lost during pregnancy. Basically, in the procedure, an implant is placed underneath the breast tissue in order to enlarge the area, and incisions can be made in three different areas depending on the size and shape of the person.

A breast lift is different from an augmentation in that a lift is done in order to fix a sagging breast, which may be caused by age or pregnancy. In this procedure, the skin is tightened in order to give the area a younger look and sometimes the doctor will insert and implant in order to make the area larger. Finally, Beverly Hills plastic surgery is not only for women. Many men, over time, have excess skin or fat develop on there chest and want it removed. This issue is called gynecomastia, and can be fixed through excisional surgery, liposuction, or a combination of both procedures.

The two most common forms of plastic surgery are liposuction and a tummy tuck. Liposuction is actually the most common form of plastic surgery, mainly because it tends to be successful and most people have parts of their body they wish were thinner. The most common areas to perform liposuction are the neck, chin, abdomen, love handles, hips, thighs and calves. Do not confuse liposuction with a Tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty). Abdominoplasty is specifically for the stomach region of your body and involves an incision near the bikini or boxer line of a person. The purpose of the tummy tuck may be the same as liposuction, the procedure is very different.

As you can tell, there is more to plastic surgery than meets the eye. Because of this, it is very important that you do as much research as possible and understand which Beverly Hills plastic surgery option would be the best for you.

In Orange County plastic surgery professionals recently found they can fall prey to burglary and theft of the most unusual kind within just three months into 2009. A Californian woman accused of using a fake identity to obtain breast implants from an Orange County plastic surgeon, earning the nickname “The Boob-Job Bandit” in local media, has turned herself in to police, Reuters Life reports. Yvonne Jean Pampellonne, 30, surrendered on Tuesday afternoon to authorities in Huntington Beach, California, where she was wanted on charges of commercial burglary, grand theft and identity theft.

The Orange County Register newspaper reported that Pampellonne was caught by detectives who identified her through the tracking numbers in her old breast implants. She arranged her surrender through an attorney and has since been released on bail with orders to face an arraignment on the charges on May 27.

Police say that in September 2008 Pampellonne used the personal information of another woman to establish a line of credit at the Pacific Centre for Plastic Surgery in Huntington Beach. Doctors performed $12,000 worth of liposuction and breast augmentation surgery at the centre, police say, unwittingly charging $12,000 to the phony line of credit and exchanging her existing implants for new ones.

Pampellonne’s arrest marks the second plastic surgery-related case this year in Orange County. In January and February, an unidentified woman who gave her name as “Miriam Gombar” or “Miriam Flemings” had thousands of dollars worth of Botox injections and dermal filler at a pair of clinics in Newport Beach plastic surgery experts inform us recently.

The Register reported that a worker at one of the Orange County tummy tuck clinics described the mystery woman as having a dark complexion and shoulder length hair, adding that the suspect in her late 40s to early 50s was “not very attractive” (beautiful criminals stealing plastic surgery is one thing, but this?) which goes to show again that fact is almost always much stranger than fiction.

Plastic surgery is no longer the domain of celebrities. All types of people pursue plastic surgery as a means of enhancing their satisfaction with their appearances. From mothers in their early 30s to baby boomer men in their 60s, plastic surgery has increasingly been accepted as a path to self improvement.

The entrance of plastic surgery into the mainstream is evident in the statistics about plastic surgery. Comprehensive survey data is collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons every year, and the results reveal the surprising popularity of plastic surgery among different demographic groups. Baby boomers are getting breast lifts, upper arm lifts, and facelifts, and mothers are not shy about turning to the “mommy makeover” procedures to rejuvenate their bodies.

In 2006, 11 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States. These procedures included plastic surgery and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Of the people receiving plastic surgery or cosmetic treatments, the overwhelming portion remain women who make up 90 percent of patients. However, men are showing a rising interest in cosmetic plastic surgery. The number of men pursuing cosmetic procedures has risen 8 percent between 2000 and 2006.

Baby Boomers and Plastic Surgery

At this time, the 40 to 54 age group, which includes both men and women, seeks plastic surgery the most often. With nearly 5 million procedures in 2006, this age group accounted for 45 percent of total patients. People age 55 and over made up one quarter of cosmetic procedures in 2006 at 26 percent. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons both of these age groups combined displayed a 12 percent rise in cosmetic procedures from 2005 to 2006.

People in the 40 to 54 age group and especially the age 55 and over group represent the famous baby boomer demographic. With a large segment of the population aging, the rise in cosmetic procedures makes sense, but the youthful attitude of many baby boomers prompts them to seek plastic surgery. Healthy and active lifestyles are becoming the norm for people as they enter their 50s and 60s, and the desire to look young is a natural reaction.

Data from the ASPS surveys indicate that since 2005 tummy tucks have increased 7 percent, breast lifts are up 11 percent, and facelifts went up an impressive 22 percent for the baby boomer age groups.

Mothers and Plastic Surgery

The Los Angeles plastic surgery procedures of breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and breast lifts are often dubbed “mommy makeover” surgeries. Although not all women who undergo these procedures are mothers, they do provide women unhappy with how pregnancy has changed their bodies with attractive options for rejuvenation. Among women of childbearing years, typically ages 20 to 39, plastic surgery is on the rise. For example, within this age group tummy tucks were up 9 percent in 2006 over the previous year and breast lifts rose 11 percent.

According to the ASPS, more childbearing women are turning to plastic surgery due to busy schedules and their need to return to their careers quickly after becoming mothers. However, other contributing factors are the broader availability of qualified plastic surgeons across many regions and the appeal of the results that can often be achieved. Tummy tucks for example are sometimes the only way to achieve a firmer and smoother torso once skin has been stretched by multiple pregnancies.

Furthermore, women often have a deep personal desire to slim and firm up their bodies after childbearing in order to boost their self image. Some women can take considerable pride in looking good after having children, and revitalizing some of the physical firmness of their pre-pregnancy bodies provides much satisfaction.

The types of people that seek Los Angeles plastic surgery and their reasons for wanting to enhance aspects of their physical appearances are diverse. Plastic surgery attracts women and men of all different ages. No single stereotype of the plastic surgery patient exists. People generally have a natural desire to improve and maintain their appearances according to their personal preferences, and for some people this includes plastic surgery.

Plastic surgery techniques have improved greatly in recent years; however there are still risks involved. If you are considering having plastic surgery, it is important that you understand first what these risks are. More and more people these days are considering plastic surgery, even when they are aware of the risks. Modern surgical innovations have made it a lot safer, however.

The potential risks of plastic surgery are reduced by preparing the patient beforehand for the possible consequences, which also helps them to approach it in a more relaxed manner. The saying ‘no gain without pain’ is particularly apt for these surgical procedures.

It is crucial to the success of your plastic surgery if you choose an expertly qualified surgeon, with an excellent record of successful procedures. The skill of the surgeon is more important in the successful outcome of your surgery than is the use of the latest inventions in the field. You don’t want added risks in your procedure because the surgeon lacks expertise with regard to minimizing risks and recognizing potential dangers.

However, no matter how much you minimize the risks, you can’t eliminate them altogether. Plastic surgery risks will vary depending on the person and the particular procedure involved. The patient’s health has a big impact; for example factors such as heavy smoking and diabetes make the patient more susceptible to risks and recovery complications.

Here are some of the most likely risks associated with plastic surgery:

Infection

The open wounds are vulnerable to entry by bacteria and viral infection, both during surgery and afterwards (by means of drain sites and sutures). For this reason the patient is usually given antibiotics during and after the procedure. If infection occurs, the patient may suffer local inflammation, discharge, foul odor and fever.

Scarring

Every patient should understand this risk, which is connected to the patient’s ability to heal and reactions to suturing. As the wound heals, the edge of the skin thickens and granular tissue may form there. Surgeons usually minimize this risk by making incisions in less visible spots, such as under the breast’s crease line, in the case of breast surgery.

Bleeding

For a few hours after surgery the patient is likely to bleed, and there can sometimes be complications from this such as hematoma. This means clotting and bleeding beneath the skin, causing bruising and soreness. The hematoma will in most cases eventually be re-absorbed into the body and clear up, however.

If the hematoma keeps spreading, however, then it can prevent oxygen flow to the area, which can lead to swelling, numbness, inflammation, infection and death of the skin, as well as separation of the wound. This situation therefore requires further medical attention, maybe surgery.

Seroma is when fluid collects under the skin, and this will need to be either drained or compressed.

Nerve Damage

This is very rare, and causes the patient to feel tingling or numbness in the area. This usually lasts for up to a year after surgery. If the affected nerve is one which assists muscle movement, then the patient may experience weakness or paralysis of that muscle, and this will require surgery to correct.

Reaction to Anesthetic

This is a very rare complication, but still possible. Commonly experienced reactions are sore throat and nausea. Risks increase depending on the patient’s state of health and nature of the procedure, but are still very rare.

Necrosis

This means tissues which die because they do not get sufficient oxygen. In many types of plastic surgery this risk is very low, however it is higher in the case of tummy tucks, breast reductions and face lifts, and particularly if the patient is a smoker.

A breast implant is a prosthesis used to enlarge the size of a woman’s breast; one of many types of breast plastic surgery. If you’re considering breast plastic surgery, it’s important to know all the pros and cons related to the type you want. Non-cosmetic clinical indications for the use of breast implants are for breast reconstruction, sex reassignment surgery, and for abnormalities, usually congenital, that affect the shape and size of the breast.

Since the saline implants are empty when they are surgically inserted, the scar is smaller than is necessary than for the silicone gel breast implants which are already filled with silicone before they are placed. In the mid 1980s, advances in manufacturing principles brought about elastomer-coated shells to decrease gel bleed, and are filled with thicker, more cohesive gel; these implants are sold under restricted conditions in the U.S. and Canada, and are widely used in other countries. Dr. Thomas Cronin and Dr. Frank Gerow, two Houston, Texas, plastic surgeons, developed the first silicone breast prosthesis with the Dow Corning Corporation in back in 1961.

In the 1970s plastic surgeons wanted softer and more lifelike implants so breast implants were redesigned with thinner gel and thinner shells; these implants had a greater tendency to rupture and leak, or “bleed” silicone through the implant shell into the body cavity and complications such as capsular contracture were common. There are two primary types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone-gel-filled implants. Compared to silicone gel implants, saline implants are more likely to cause cosmetic problems likes rippling and wrinkling, and can be noticeable to the eye or to the touch.

Saline-filled implants are the most common implant used in the United States due to some restrictions on silicone implants, which may change, but are seldom used in other countries. For women with very little breast tissue, or for post-mastectomy reconstruction, plastic surgeons believe that silicone gel implants are the superior device; but in patients with more breast tissue, saline implants can look very similar to silicone gel implants.

Capsules of tightly-woven collagen fibers form as an immune response around a foreign body like breast implants, which tends to wall it off; capsular contracture happens when the capsule tightens and squeezes the implant. The risk and treatment of extracapsular silicone gel is still controversial; plastic surgeons agree that it’s difficult to remove, but there is disagreement about the lasting health effects. Countries outside of the United States have not endorsed routine MRI screening, and have taken the position that MRI’s should be reserved only for cases involving suspected clinical rupture or to confirm mammographic or ultrasound studies that suggest rupture.

The age and design of the implant are important factors in rupture, but estimating rupture rates of contemporary devices has been difficult for a variety of reasons, mainly because implant designs have changed somewhat over time. One study reported that only 30 percent of ruptures in asymptomatic patients are accurately detected by experienced plastic surgeons, compared to 86 percent detected by MRI. When breast implants are removed that have been implanted for a long period of time, a mastopexy is often performed to tighten up the loose skin: this is additional surgery usually done at the same time and at an additional expense.

Thousands of women claim they have become ill from their breast implants; complaints include neurological and rheumatological problems. Some studies have suggested that subjective and objective symptoms of women with breast implants may improve partially or entirely when their implants are removed.

When breast implants are removed that have been implanted for a long period of time, a mastopexy is often performed to tighten up the loose skin: this is additional surgery usually done at the same time at an additional expense. Since the early 1990s, a number of independent reviewers have examined studies concerning links between silicone gel breast implants and systemic diseases; the consensus of these reviews is that there is no clear evidence of a causal link between the implantation of silicone breast implants in breast plastic surgery and systemic disease; it’s always wondered who is funding these studies and that should clearly be stated.

Just a reminder; breast augmentation is an elective cosmetic breast plastic surgery. Although the international consensus is that silicone implants in breast plastic surgery has not been shown to cause systemic illness, one must keep in mind that many women have reported a connection to symptoms they are having and to their breast augmentation. After breast plastic surgery, depending on the level of activity required, patients are usually able to return to work or school in about a week, sometimes sooner.

New Haven plastic surgery is creating a name for itself. Its reputation has built up over the years that it has started catering to the needs for reshaping, augmentation, contouring, lifting, and the likes. The services of the specialized clinics and surgeons generally attend to the needs of both the men and women who seek some opportunities to change their physical appearance.

With this, take time to get an overview of what is at stake at the New Haven plastic surgery services.

Breast Augmentation. The New Haven plastic surgery specialists can give you a clear-cut view of the concerns on breast implants. These experts say that the variety of breast implants such as the silicone gel implant, saline breast implant, or the cohesive gel implant can be done either on top or underneath the pectoralis major muscles and there under the breast glands. The main consideration is the thickness of the breast tissue and if it is capable to cover up such implant. Also, the incision area has to be carefully thought of. The major incision sites include the periareolar or around the nipples, the axillary or under the arms, and the inframammary or within the breast folds.

Liposuction. It is necessary that before any surgical operation is performed on you, you must first know if you are a right candidate for it. Not everyone can normally react to the process of liposuction. Your body needs to meet certain conditions and it should also be clear to you that liposuction is not in any way an alternative for weight loss. Rather, it is the process of the removal of excessive fats so as to contour the body into your most desirable figure. Liposuction is then a method that somehow sculpts the hips, abdomen, neck, buttocks, chin, arms, cheeks, knees, and thighs.

Breast Enhancement New Haven Plastic Surgery. It involves the techniques of reduction, reconstruction, and breast lifts. This surgical procedure is the best resort when a woman wants to modify the shape of her breasts so as her self-confidence would be amplified. However, male breast reduction is also offered in this area.

Botox Injections. These injections are effective in lessening the wrinkles and creases in the face as well as in the elimination of a bunny nose, the crow’s feet, and the frown lines. With this, a non-surgical brow lift can also be performed. Botox is likewise used in the neck especially if the patient wants to get rid of the horizontal neck lines. The botox injection allows the muscles to relax so the skin becomes smooth.

Juvederm Injections. Creases in the skin come along with aging. Aging makes the skin crease, fold, and wrinkle. You would soon realize that its texture is no longer the same as that with what it had been when you where younger. But with this New Haven plastic surgery method, the volume of the skin is restored. Juvederm gel is composed of hyaluronic acid that brings back or adds hydration and volume into the skin.

Face lifts. Again, the sagging skin in the face reveals your age. To get rid of these aging signs, face lift needs to be done.
